Religion, Philosophy & Ethics
Welcome to Religious, Personal and Ethical Education (RPE)
Religious, Personal and Ethical Education (RPE) provides students with the opportunity to explore some of the most important questions about life, beliefs, values and society. Through the study of religion, philosophy and ethics, students develop a deeper understanding of different worldviews and learn to appreciate the diversity of the communities in which they live.
Our curriculum encourages students to think critically about a range of moral, social and religious issues, examining different perspectives and considering how beliefs can influence individuals and societies. Students explore key religious teachings alongside contemporary ethical debates, helping them to develop informed opinions and respect for the views of others.
RPE provides a safe environment for discussion, debate and reflection. Students are encouraged to ask thoughtful questions, challenge assumptions and support their ideas with reasoned arguments and evidence. These experiences help students develop confidence in expressing their own views while listening respectfully to those of others.
The subject plays an important role in preparing students for life in modern Britain by promoting tolerance, empathy and understanding. Through studying a range of beliefs, cultures and ethical issues, students develop the knowledge and skills needed to become thoughtful, responsible and active citizens.
At Sybil Andrews Academy, we aim to foster curiosity, compassion and open-mindedness, enabling students to engage positively with the diverse world around them.
Further information about what students study in each year group can be found in our RPE Long-Term Plan.
