Design Technology
Welcome to Design Technology
Design Technology is an inspiring and practical subject that encourages students to be creative, innovative and resilient problem-solvers. Through designing, making and evaluating, students develop the knowledge and skills needed to create products that meet real-world needs and solve practical challenges.
At Sybil Andrews Academy, students learn to apply their creativity alongside technical understanding, developing confidence in the design process from initial ideas through to finished products. They explore how designers and engineers shape the world around us while learning about materials, manufacturing processes, sustainability and the impact of technology on society.
Our curriculum allows students to develop a wide range of practical and transferable skills, including research, design communication, problem-solving, project management and evaluation. Students are encouraged to think critically, work independently and refine their ideas through testing and feedback.
Design Technology helps students to develop the confidence to take risks, learn from mistakes and persevere when tackling challenges. These skills support success across the curriculum and prepare students for further study and future careers in areas such as engineering, architecture, product design, manufacturing and construction.
Further information about what students study in each year group can be found in our Design Technology Long-Term Plan.
Through Design Technology, students are empowered to turn ideas into reality, developing the creativity, technical understanding and resilience needed to succeed in an ever-changing world.
