Music
Welcome to Music
Music is a creative and inspiring subject that enables students to develop their skills as performers, composers and listeners while fostering a lifelong appreciation of music from a wide range of genres, cultures and traditions.
Our curriculum provides students with opportunities to perform on a variety of instruments, compose their own music and develop their understanding of how music is created and organised. Through practical and theoretical study, students explore the key elements of music, including rhythm, melody, harmony, texture and structure, building their confidence and musical understanding over time.
Students are encouraged to be creative, take risks and express themselves through music. They learn how to work independently and collaboratively, developing valuable skills in communication, resilience, self-discipline and teamwork. Through listening activities, students also gain an appreciation of different musical styles and the role music plays in cultures and communities around the world.
Music supports students’ personal development as well as their academic progress, helping them to develop creativity, concentration and confidence. Whether performing, composing or analysing music, students are challenged to think critically, reflect on their work and continually strive for improvement.
At Sybil Andrews Academy, we aim to inspire a love of music and provide opportunities for all students to experience the enjoyment and benefits of musical participation.
Further information about what students study in each year group can be found in our Music Long-Term Plan.
