Welcome to History

History helps students to understand the world we live in by exploring the people, events and ideas that have shaped society over time. Through studying History, students develop their ability to analyse evidence, evaluate interpretations and construct well-supported arguments, while gaining a deeper appreciation of local, national and international heritage.

At Key Stage 4, we follow the Edexcel GCSE History specification. Students study a broad range of topics, including:

• Anglo-Saxon and Norman England, examining the impact of the Norman Conquest and the changes it brought to England.
• Medicine Through Time, exploring how ideas about health and treatment have developed from the medieval period to the modern day.
• Weimar and Nazi Germany, investigating Germany’s political, economic and social changes between 1918 and 1939.
• The Cold War, studying the tensions between East and West and key events that shaped the modern world.

At Key Stage 3, students follow a diverse and engaging curriculum that reflects the experiences and contributions of people from a wide range of cultures, backgrounds and communities. Alongside key events in British history, students explore global history, migration, empire, civil rights and the experiences of underrepresented groups, helping them to develop a broad and balanced understanding of the past.

Throughout their studies, students are encouraged to think critically, ask challenging questions and evaluate different viewpoints. History develops valuable skills in analysis, interpretation, communication and problem-solving, providing an excellent foundation for further study and a wide range of future careers.
