PSHE
Welcome to Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE)
PSHE plays a vital role in preparing students for life beyond the classroom by helping them develop the knowledge, skills and attributes needed to stay healthy, safe and successful in modern society. Through PSHE, students learn how to manage relationships, make informed decisions, look after their physical and mental wellbeing, and become responsible and active members of their communities.
Our curriculum is designed in line with statutory guidance and is carefully tailored to meet the needs of our students and local community. We use Jigsaw PSHE as our core curriculum provider, adapting lessons to reflect our local context, school values and lesson routines. Where appropriate, we also invite external speakers and organisations to enrich students’ learning and provide expert insight into key topics.
The PSHE curriculum follows a cyclical approach, meaning that important themes such as healthy relationships, online safety, diversity, wellbeing and citizenship are revisited throughout Key Stages 3 and 4. This enables students to deepen their understanding over time, exploring topics in an age-appropriate way as they mature and encounter new experiences.
We recognise that effective PSHE education is most successful when schools and families work in partnership. We are committed to engaging with parents and carers through consultation and communication, ensuring that families are informed about the curriculum and have opportunities to contribute to its development. This collaborative approach helps us provide a curriculum that meets the needs of our students while reflecting the values of our community.
As the world continues to change, our PSHE curriculum remains flexible, allowing us to respond to emerging issues and provide additional support where needed. Our aim is to equip every student with the confidence, resilience and understanding they need to thrive both now and in the future.
Further information about what students study in each year group can be found in our PSHE Long-Term Plan.
